THE GARDEN CLUB OF
NORTH SMITHFIELD
HISTORY The Garden Club of North Smithfield was established in 1954 by a group of local women who were active in the Slatersville Parent Teacher Association. At a regular meeting of the Association, colored slides of “living flora” were shown and a talk was given on the Japanese Beetle. A general discussion followed and it was suggested that a garden club be formed. Mrs. Alfred E. King invited all women interested in forming such a club to meet at her home. The first regular meeting of the newly formed Garden Club of North Smithfield was held on Saturday, April 10, 1954, at 2:00 PM at Mrs. King’s home. Thirty members were present. |
